Acupuncture improves overall health and wellbeing while also treating pain. The system employed at Edgecliff Acupuncture involves identifying a pattern of disharmony via several diagnostic methods including: abdominal palpation, pulse and tongue diagnosis and interview. The practitioner will determine the root cause of the problem which activates your body’s innate healing ability and gently guides your system back to a state of health and harmony.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine has been developing over thousands of years and is based in sound theory which is taught all over the world at the university level. Over the past few decades modern science has been attempting to describe the physiological interpretation of what is occurring.
Accordingly, the 1997 US National Institute of Health Consensus on Acupuncture, concluded that “studies have demonstrated that acupuncture can cause multiple biological responses, mediated mainly by sensory neurons, to many structures within the central nervous system. This can lead to activation of pathways, affecting various physiological systems in the brain, as well as in the periphery.” (Article here)
The report also suggests that acupuncture “may activate the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, resulting in a broad spectrum of systemic effects. Alteration in the secretion of neurotransmitters and neurohormones, and the changes in the regulation of blood flow, both centrally and peripherally, have been documented. There is also evidence of alteration in immune functions produced by acupuncture.”
